Wolverine, Stanton Claim Twilight Wins – Friday Sports Wrap

MLB
JaCoby Jones’ two-run homer in the seventh inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins yesterday. Michael Fulmer gave up a run in the first inning, then pitched through the seventh to earn his first home victory in nearly a year. Joe Jiménez pitched a perfect eighth, and Shane Greene got the save.

The Tigers visit the Chicago White Sox tonight. Mike Fiers will pitch against Reynaldo Lopez. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and begin a home set against the Philadelphia Phillies tonight. Brent Suter will start against Jake Arrieta.

In Twilight League baseball last night…
– Wolverine-Orbit got past Dean Kangas-State Farm 8-5.
– Superior National Bank-Stanton downed REL-Mohawk Technologies 10-4.

Finlandia
Houghton volleyball standout Frankie Stukel will play for Finlandia University next season. She’s the fifth incoming freshman to be added to the squad.

Community
The first Bridgefest 5000 5k race will be run tonight. Runners will start ahead of the Bridgefest parade at 7:00 at the west edge of downtown Hancock. Check in and late on-site registration will open at 4:30 behind the Krist Oil station.

Keweenaw Tread Fest will hold an early registration and check-in session tonight at the Tech Trailhead. A number of mountain bike races for adults of all skill levels and kids will be held on the Tech Trails tomorrow. A 15k run and a couple of youth runs will take place Sunday.
