MLB
Steven Wright’s baffling knuckleball didn’t mystify the Detroit Tigers last night, as they pounded out a 9-8 win over the Boston Red Sox. Miguel Cabrera opened the slugfest with a two-run homer in the first inning, and Detroit added two more runs in the second. The lead didn’t last – Boston scored twice off Mike Pelfrey in the third, and added three more in the fourth. Detroit reclaimed the lead by scoring four in the fifth inning. Boston tied the game with three off Kyle Ryan and Alex Wilson in the sixth. Ironically, Wilson got the win when Tyler Collins drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh that forced in the game’s final run.

The Tigers wrap up that three-game set at Boston this afternoon. Michael Fulmer will pitch against Eduardo Rodriguez. Hear the first pitch at 1:35 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Detroit outfielder J.D. Martinez began a rehab assignment with the Toledo Mud Hens last night. He had one hit as the designated hitter. Martinez will DH again tonight, and could begin playing the outfield this weekend. He’s recovering from a broken elbow.

The Milwaukee Brewers scored five runs in the eighth inning, and clubbed the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4 last night. The Diamondbacks scored two quick runs off Matt Garza in the first inning. Garza settled in, and gave up just one more over six frames. Milwaukee came back with three in the bottom of the first, and the game was tied at four when the Brewers came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Scooter Gennett drove in two with a bases-loaded single. With the bases reloaded, Kirk Nieuwenhuis walked to force in a run, and Jonathan Villar drove in two with a single.

The Brewers host the Diamondbacks again tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Archie Bradley.

Twilight LeagueTwilight League
Only one Twilight Baseball League score was posted from last night’s schedule. Wolverine-Orbit scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to beat Superior National Bank-Stanton 3-0. Luke Paul pitched nine shutout innings to earn the win for Wolverine. Chris Saari got the save. Tyler LaDuron went the distance for Stanton, and took the tough loss.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenseman Danny DeKeyser to a six-year contract. Reports value the deal at 30-million dollars. DeKeyser drew up in suburban Detroit, and played college hockey at Western Michigan University. The agreement cancels the salary arbitration hearing that would have been held tomorrow. There has been no deal reached with goalie Petr Mrazek. He and the Wings will present their cases in an arbitration hearing today.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons have signed free-agent guard Ray McCallum Jr. to a one-year contract. McCallum split time between San Antonio and Memphis last season, averaging three points in 11 minutes per game. He grew up in the Detroit area, and played college ball for UD-Mercy, where his dad was the coach.

NFL
With NFL training camps underway…
– ESPN is reporting that the Detroit Lions are close to a deal with veteran receiver Anquan Boldin.
– Green Bay Packers receiver Jordy Nelson talked with reporters yesterday, and said that his repaired ACL has healed, and he expects to be ready for the start of the season. He admitted that he has also suffered a minor injury to his other knee, but doesn’t expect it to hold him back.
