Winter Threatens High School Schedules (Again) – Thursday Sports Wrap

High School
In high school boys basketball tonight (subject to change, because of school closings)…
– Houghton tips off at Calumet, in a game that was rescheduled from last Thursday.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City journeys to Watersmeet.
– Ontonagon welcomes Wakefield-Marenisco.

In girls hoops tonight…
– Houghton travels to Escanaba – postponed to tomorrow.
– Calumet plays at L’Anse.
– Chassell visits Lake Linden-Hubbell.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City welcomes Ewen-Trout Creek.
– Jeffers hosts Baraga – postponed, TBA.

In high school swimming, Houghton entertains Kingsford.

MTU/NMU
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams play at Purdue Northwest this evening.

Both Northern Michigan University hoops teams compete at Wisconsin-Parkside.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons host the Dallas Mavericks tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings return from the NHL All-Star break tomorrow, when they entertain the Toronto Maple Leafs. Pregame coverage will start at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Wings have sent rookie Michael Rasmussen to Grand Rapids for a conditioning assignment. Rasmussen has missed several weeks with a hamstring injury.

Snowmobile
The Keweenaw Snowmobile Club is hosting its second annual Trailside Bonfire and Cookout at the Trailside Lodge Saturday from 11:00 until 3:00. The Lodge is located where snowmobile trail #17 crosses US-41 just north of Calumet. All snowmobilers and families are welcome to attend. The club will provide a pulled pork sandwich lunch.

Our high school hockey coverage continues this weekend from the Trenton Showcase downstate. Tomorrow, Hancock faces Grand Rapids Christian. Pregame coverage will begin around 11:50. Calumet takes on Livonia Stevenson. Pregame coverage will start around 4:00. On Saturday morning, Houghton will play Warren De La Salle. Pregame coverage will begin around 8:20.

The New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams will meet in the Super Bowl Sunday. Pregame coverage will begin at 2:00 on 99.3 The Lift.
