MLB

The Tigers blanked the Athletics 9-0 yesterday. Javier Báez had three hits and drove in two runs. Jake Marisnick had a homer and an RBI double. Michael Lorenzen gave up three hits over five innings to get the win. Tyler Holton, Brendan White and Chasen Shreve completed the shutout, allowing just one more Oakland hit. Detroit manager A.J. Hinch said he pulled Lorenzen earlier than normal because of Lorenzen’s upcoming trip to the All Star Game.

The Tigers welcome the Blue Jays tonight. Alex Faedo will start against Alek Manoah. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

To make room for Faedo’s return from the injured list, Zach Logue has been sent to Toledo. Outfielder Akil Baddoo will also come off the injured list today. Tyler Nevin has been sent back to the Mud Hens. Outfielder Riley Green is still on track to rejoin the Tigers sometime this weekend. Former Detroit pitcher pitcher Anthony Misiewicz has been claimed off waivers by the Yankees.

The Brewers held off a late comeback, and shaded the Cubs 6-5 yesterday. Milwaukee took a 4-1 lead in the fifth, with help from a Christian Yelich home run. A two-run Yan Gomes homer off J.C. Mejía tied the game at five each in the top of the eighth, but Victor Caratini’s solo shot in the bottom of the eighth won it for Milwaukee.

The Brewers host the Reds tonight. Corbin Burnes will pitch against Andrew Abbott.

Filip Zadina is no longer a Detroit Red Wing. The former first-round draft pick had struggled to find a place with the team, and missed much of last season because of injury. With two years remaining on a $5.5-million contract, Zadina recently asked the team to trade him. They found no takers, so the team placed him on waivers. No one claimed him, so he and the club agreed to terminate his contract. Zadina becomes an unrestricted free agent, and can negotiate a new deal with any team.

Frisbee

The 65th annual Coca Cola International Frisbee Tournament will bring some of the world’s best Guts Frisbee players to the Hancock Driving Park tomorrow and Sunday. Spectators are welcome. See details here.
