The Detroit Red Wings opened up a 3-0 lead, then held on to edge the San Jose Sharks 3-2 last night. Dylan Larkin, Andreas Athanasiou and Christoffer Ehn scored for Detroit. MLB

The Detroit Tigers roster players defeated the Tigers prospects 9-1 in an exhibition game yesterday. Spencer Turnbull gave up three hits over five innings. Mikie Mahtook hit a home run. Detroit will play an exhibition against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field this afternoon, and then will open their season Thursday afternoon at Toronto. Opening Day coverage Thursday will begin at 3:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

After the game, Detroit manager Ron Gardenhire confirmed that Turnbull will open the season in the Tigers’ starting rotation.

The Milwaukee Brewers outscored the Toronto Blue Jays 10-5 in an exhibition contest in Montreal yesterday. Travis Shaw and Yasmani Grandal homered. The Brewers will face the Jays in another exhibition game today in Montreal, before opening the season Thursday at home against the Saint Louis Cardinals.
