College Baseball

The Finlandia University softball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader against Lawrence University yesterday, 13-3 and 8-4. Elizabeth Ayala and Jaden Matthews each had three hits for the Lions.

College Baseball

The Finlandia baseball team has added a new recruit for next season. Carlos Granela is a pitcher from Florida City, Florida.

College Hockey

Another former Michigan Tech hockey player has signed a pro contract. Goaltender Mark Sinclair has joined the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. Sinclair saw limited action for the Huskies this past season as he dealt with some injuries,

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings claimed their second straight win last night, downing the Winnipeg Jets 3-1. Sam Gagner scored in the first period. Michael Rasmussen netted the game-winner midway through the third, and Gagner sealed the win with a late empty-netter. Thomas Greiss stopped 32 shots.

The Wings host the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons lost to the Dallas Mavericks 131-113 last evening. Cade Cunningham scored 25.

The Pistons host the Milwaukee Bucks tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Milwaukee Brewers open the regular season this afternoon against the Cubs in Chicago. Corbin Burnes will start against Kyle Hendricks.

With catcher Pedro Severino suspended for the first half of the season because of a failed drug test, the Brewers picked up Victor Caratini from the San Diego Padres yesterday in exchange for two minor league prospects.

The Detroit Tigers begin the regular season at home against the Chicago White Sox tomorrow. Eduardo Rodriguez will start against Lucas Giolito. Coverage will begin at 12:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Tigers finalized their opening day roster yesterday. Because of the shortened spring training, teams will be allowed to carry 28 players for the first few weeks of the season. The team will be without outfielders Riley Greene and Derek Hill, who are injured. They’ll also open without injured relievers Kyle Funkhouser, Andrew Chafin and José Cisnero, who has been placed on the 60-day injured list with a shoulder strain. They’ll also be without pitchers Michael Pineda and Wily Peralta, who arrived late at spring training because of visa issues, and are still working their way into shape. Late cuts included pitcher Chase Anderson and utility player Willi Castro, who were sent to Toledo, and pitcher Miguel Del Pozo, who was designated for assignment.
