Tigers pitcher Daniel Norris will open the season on the disabled list. Norris had been the favorite to fill the fifth spot in the starting rotation. He was removed from his most recent start after experiencing back pain, and has been diagnosed with non-displaced fractures in his spinous process. Team officials say that sounds worse than it is, it should heal itself, and they don’t view the injury as being long-term.

Reliever Blaine Hardy is being shut down for a few days because of a sore shoulder. He’s still expected to be ready for opening day.

Wily Peralta threw six strong innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Kansas City Royals 9-2 yesterday. Peralta gave up just one run on four hits. Martin Maldonado, Chris Carter and Eric Young, Jr., homered. The Brewers face the Cubs this afternoon.

Ryan Braun sat out yesterday’s game, after experiencing stiffness in his lower back. Braun is recovering from off-season back surgery.
