Pulkkinen

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings placed Teemu Pulkkinen on waivers yesterday. The Finnish forward could be claimed by another team until noon today, and it is likely that will happen. If he clears waivers, he’ll be assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Pulkkinen has been a consistent scorer for the Griffins the past several seasons, but has not been able to translate that success to the NHL. Yesterday, coach Jeff Blashill said that either Andreas Athanasiou or Anthony Mantha will start the season in Detroit. Either can be shifted to Grand Rapids without going through the waiver process. NHL rosters must be set by 5:00 this afternoon. The Wings open the regular season Thursday night at Tampa Bay. Hear the broadcast on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
