NHL – Red Wings Blank Lightning
Petr Mrazek turned in his second shutout of the playoffs, stopping 28 shots as the Detroit Red Wings blanked the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 last night. Riley Sheahan’s power play goal in the final minute of the first period was the game winner. Detroit leads the best-of-seven series three games to two, and could advance to the next round with a win at the Joe Lewis Arena tomorrow night. Face-off is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
MLB – Tigers Snap Losing Streak
The Detroit Tigers broke their four-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians yesterday. Alfredo Simon improved to 4-0, giving up one run on six hits before leaving in the seventh inning. Tom Gorzelanny and Joakim Soria pitched scoreless relief. Victor Martinez had two hits, and drove in three runs for Detroit.
The Tigers wrap up that weekend home set against the Cleveland Indians this afternoon. Kyle Lobstein will start against Carlos Carrasco. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
The Milwaukee Brewers’ struggles continued, as they lost to the Saint Louis Cardinals 5-3 yesterday. Wily Peralta took the loss, giving up two runs over six innings. Saint Louis scored three in the seventh against Will Smith and Jeremy Jeffress. Milwaukee put three on the board in the eighth inning – two on an rbi double by Aramis Ramirez – but couldn’t close the gap.
The Brewers host the Cards again this afternoon. Mike Fiers will pitch against Lance Lynn.
