The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 last night. Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and an assist. Petr Mrazek stopped 42 shots in the loss. Detroit now leads Philadelphia by just one point in the race for the second Eastern Conference wild card playoff spot. The Wings will skate at Columbus tomorrow night.

The Detroit Pistons will host the Atlanta Hawks tonight. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

High School
Only one girls basketball team will be representing the Upper Peninsula as the state tournament wraps up this week in Lansing. Stephenson defeated Newberry 60-35 in the quarterfinals last night. The Eagles will face Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart in the Class D semifinals tomorrow evening. St. Ignace lost to Traverse City St. Francis in the Class C quarterfinals 48-44 last night.

The Finlandia University softball team is at the Cobber Classic in the Twin Cities. They’ll open play against Bethany Lutheran College at 10:00, and North Central University at 1:00.

In spring training baseball, the Detroit Tigers defeated Atlanta 10-6 yesterday. Justin Verlander continued his solid spring, striking our five over four scoreless innings, and giving up just one hit. Bruce Rondon continued to struggle. The two runs he gave inflated his spring earned run average to more than 10. J.D. Martinez and James McCann homered. The Tigers face the Astros this afternoon. The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and take on the White Sox today.
