NHL – Red Wings Fall in Shootout
The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Bruins 3-2 in a shootout last night. Jimmy Howard stopped 39 shots to keep Detroit in the game. Tomas Tatar and Gustav Nyquist scored. The Wings skate at Toronto tomorrow night Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons
The Detroit Pistons never trailed, as they beat the Hornets 104-84 in preseason play yesterday. With Jodie Meeks and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope sidelined by injuries, coach Stan Van Gundy started his three big men. Andre Drummond, Greg Monroe and Josh Smith combined for 42 points, 30 rebounds and 10 assists. The Pistons’ next preseason game will be tomorrow evening at Orlando. We will carry select Pistons games again this season on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Calumet High School Athletic Director Sean Jacques has been elected to the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Representative Council. Jacques will serve a two-year term, representing Class C and D schools from the Upper Peninsula. Baraga athletic director Jeff Markham was chosen to represent Class D schools on the MHSAA’s Upper Peninsula Athletic Committee.

Michigan Tech runner Sean Pengelly has been named this week’s Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week. Pengelly won his first-ever collegiate event at the Lucian Rosa Invitational last weekend. It’s his second GLIAC Player of the Week award.

The Michigan Tech football team is getting ready to host Grand Valley State on Saturday. The perennial GLIAC powerhouse Lakers come in with a record of just 3-3… but Tech coach Tom Kearly knows better than to take them for granted… [KEARLY]. Kickoff is at 1:00 Saturday at Sherman Field.
