In high school volleyball yesterday…
– Calumet v L’Anse – not reported.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell swept Baraga 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-8).
– Ewen-Trout Creek defeated Watersmeet 3-0.
– Ontonagon fell to Wakefield-Marenisco 3-1.

In volleyball today, Chassell plays at Dollar Bay. Tomorrow, Baraga, Calumet, Gladstone, Gwinn, Hancock, Ironwood, Ishpeming, Kingsford, L’Anse, Marquette, and West Iron County play at the Houghton Invitational.

In cross country, Houghton swept the WestPAC meet at the Tech Trails yesterday afternoon.

The Michigan Tech hockey team will host Alabama-Huntsville tonight and tomorrow night. Faceoffs are at 7:07 at MacInnes MTU Athletics Logo BArena.

The Tech volleyball team plays at the Midwest Regional Crossover event in Chicago today and tomorrow. The Huskies will face Cedarville this afternoon at 3:30, Quincy tomorrow morning, and Rockhurst tomorrow afternoon.

The Huskies soccer team plays at Lake Erie this afternoon at 2:00, and at Walsh Sunday afternoon.

The Tech women’s tennis team entertains Tiffin tomorrow morning at 10:00, and Findlay Sunday morning at 10:00.

Haley Makela had to stop 35 shots in goal. The Lady Lions will play their last home game of the season tomorrow at noon against Mount Mary University.

The Finlandia volleyball team lost 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 28-26, 25-21) in a hard-fought match at Crown College last night. The Lions face North Central University and Mount Mary University in Minneapolis tonight.

The Lions football team plays at Presentation College tomorrow afternoon.

The Detroit Red Wings opened their NHL season with a 6-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning last night. Thomas Vanek scored twice for Detroit. Petr Mrazek took the loss in goal. The Wings will visit the Florida Panthers tomorrow night.

The Detroit Pistons got past the Atlanta Hawks 99-94 last night, and claimed their first victory of the NBA preseason. Detroit rested Andre Drummond. Ish Smith led the Pistons with 18 points. The Pistons will continue their preseason schedule at Philadelphia tomorrow night.

MLB
The American League Championship Series begins tonight, as the Cleveland Indians host the Toronto Blue Jays. The National League Championship Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs starts tomorrow.

In last night’s NFL game, the San Diego Chargers defeated the Denver Broncos 21-13.

The Detroit Lions host the Los Angeles Rams in a 1:00 game on Sunday. The Green Bay Packers entertain the Dallas Cowboys in a 4:25 game.
