MLB – Tigers Fall
The Detroit Tigers lost to the New York Yankees 5-2 last night. Detroit collected eight hits off Yankee starter Nathan Eovaldi before he left in the eighth inning, but also hit into four double plays. Kyle Lobstein pitched six innings, and gave up just one run to take a hard-luck loss. The rest of New York’s runs came off the Tigers’ bullpen.
The Tigers continue that home set against the Yankees tonight. David Price will start against Adam Warren. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Detroit reliever Joe Nathan is headed to Toledo for a rehab assignment. He’s slated to pitch tonight, as he works his way back into shape from an elbow strain. If things go well, he could rejoin the Tigers as early as Friday.
The Milwaukee Brewers lost a 16-10 slugfest to the Cincinnati Reds last night. The teams combined for seven home runs. Milwaukee starter Mike Fiers gave up grand slams to Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier. Elian Herrera hit a grand slam for the Brewers.
The Brewers continue that home set against the Reds tonight. Jimmy Nelson will start against Johnny Cueto.
NHL – Red Wings Take Series Lead
The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-0 in game three of their opening-round NHL playoff series last night. Petr Mrazek stopped 22 shots in goal for Detroit. Pavel Datsyuk’s first-period goal was the game-winner. Riley Sheahan added an insurance goal early in the third period, and Luke Glendening wrapped it up with an empty-netter in the final period. The Wings lead the best-of-seven series two games to one. Game four will be played tomorrow evening. Face-off is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Finlandia Baseball Splits
The Finlandia University baseball team split a pair of games at North Central University yesterday afternoon, dropping the first 10-7, and winning the second 9-3. Tyler Jacobsen went the distance to earn the win in the second game, giving up just six hits. He struck out seven. Jon Crawford homered for Finlandia in the second game. The Lions’ games at Northland College this afternoon have been canceled.
The Finlandia University softball team has been seeded fourth in the upcoming Great South Athletic Conference tournament. The Lions will begin play Friday against top-seeded Agnes Scott College. The tourney is being played at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.
NFL Schedules Released
The Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers have each released their 2015 NFL schedules. The teams will play each other on November 15th in Green Bay, and December 3rd in Detroit.
The Lions will be featured six times on national broadcasts… two Monday night games, one Sunday night game, one Thursday night game, the Thanksgiving game, and their November 1st game in London.
The Packers will also play a Thanksgiving game – at night, at home against the Bears. They have four other prime time games scheduled, including a second Thursday night game, a Monday night game, and two Sunday night contests.
