MLB

Michael Brousseau’s two-out single off Matt Hall in the bottom of the 13th inning gave the Tampa Bay Rays a 1-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers last night. Detroit’s side of the pitchers’ duel was led by Jordan Zimmermann, who returned from the injured list to strike out five over five innings. Five relievers combined to toss seven shutout innings before the Rays finally broke through.

The Tigers conclude that series at Tampa Bay this afternoon. Matthew Boyd will start against Trevor Richards. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Eric Thames’ two-run homer in the 14th inning gave the Milwaukee Brewers a wild 15-14 victory over the Washington Nationals last night. The seesaw battle saw Milwaukee grab an early lead, then score four times in the top of the ninth to take a one-run advantage. Washington forced extra innings with a run off Josh Hader in the bottom of the ninth. Each team scored in the 13th. After Thames’ two-run shot in top of the 14th, Washington got one back off Junior Guerra in the bottom of the inning, but Guerra struck out Joe Ross with a runner at third base to end the game. The teams combined for 38 hits.

That set wraps up in Washington this afternoon. Chase Anderson will start against Erick Fedde.
