In high school volleyball last night, L’Anse swept Baraga 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-23).

Former Baraga Viking Dillion Hueckstaedt has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week in football. He is the first Lion to win the award. Hueckstaedt had 11 solo tackles with 13 assists to break his own school record in Finladia’s loss to Trine University on Saturday.

MTU
The Michigan Tech volleyball team won both of its matches last weekend, but still fell one position in the latest American Volleyball Coaches’ Association poll. The Huskies are ranked 25th in the nation this week. Tech middle blocker Emilia Widen has been selected as this week’s Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association North Division Player of the Week. Widen posted a .679 hitting percentage in Tech’s victories over Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State.

Tech’s home volleyball and soccer matches against Northern Michigan University this Friday have been designated as “Copper Country Strong” games. Donation boxes will be set up at each venue, and each player will wear a warm-up shirt that will be auctioned on the teams’ Facebook pages after the games. Proceeds will support the Portage Health Foundation flood relief fund.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 last night. Andreas Athanasiou scored Detroit’s only goal. Jimmy Howard made 36 saves, as Detroit was outshot 39-21. The Wings will host the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Detroit Pistons will host the Philadelphia 76ers this evening. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB
The Los Angeles Dodgers will face the Boston Red Sox in the World Series beginning tonight in Boston.

NFL
In last night’s contest, the Atlanta Falcons edged the New York Giants 23-20. If you played The Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you must have selected at least 10 games correctly to be eligible to be our weekly winner.
