High School
In high school volleyball last night…
– Houghton blanked L’Anse 3-0.
– Hancock fell to West Iron County 3-1.
– Calumet swept Negaunee 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-11).

– Ontonagon v Ewen-Trout Creek – not reported.

The Western Peninsula Athletic Conference continues to grow. The latest school to join the league for football is Munising. Norway, Bark River-Harris and Lake Linden-Hubbell were admitted for football last summer. All will play league schedules next fall. There are also reports that Iron Mountain has applied, and could be accepted at a league meeting next week. Several other schools from the middle of the peninsula are also said to be interested. The expansion will likely mean that the WestPAC will split into two divisions, based either on geography or school size.

The Detroit Red Wings lost 4-2 to the Dallas Stars last night. Justin Abdelkader and Anthony Mantha scored for Detroit. Petr Mrazek stopped 29 of 32 shots in net, and took the loss. The Stars’ final goal was a late empty-netter.  The Wings skate at Arizona tomorrow night. Face-off is at 10:00 on 99.3 The Lift.
