The Detroit Tigers scored four runs in the first inning, and cruised to a 10-3 victory over the Miami Marlins yesterday afternoon. Miguel Cabrera, Steven Moya and Jarrod Saltalamacchia homered for Detroit. Daniel Norris earned his first win of the season, giving up two runs over five innings. He struck out eight. Alex Wilson gave up a run in relief, before Kyle Ryan and Anibal Sanchez closed out the game.
The Tigers begin a series at Tampa Bay against the Rays tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Jake Odorizzi. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Junior Guerra pitched eight innings of two-hit ball, as the Milwaukee Brewers blanked the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-0 last night. Milwaukee scored five runs in the second inning to spoil the major league debut of L-A starter Brock Stewart. Ryan Braun and Kirk Nieuwenhuis homered later in the game.
That series concludes in Milwaukee this afternoon. Zach Davies will pitch against Kenta Maeda.

In Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League play last night…
– Auto Pro Glass and Tire bombed Mattila Rock and Dock 30-2. Megan Yeo blasted two out-of-the-park home runs, and Selena Stromer had five hits. Sarah Audette was the winning pitcher.
– Auto Pro then fell to Superior National Bank 4-1. Rosalie Anderson was the winning pitcher and had 13 strikeouts. Audette took the loss. Stromer had two hits for Auto Pro, and Molly Berg had two for SNB.

In Copper Country Twilight Baseball League play tonight…
– Superior National Bank-Stanton faces Dean Kangas-State Farm at the Hancock Driving Park.
– The Country Miners meet Wolverine-Orbit at the Wolverine field.
Both games begin at 6:30.
MTU
Cliff Watson will serve as the captain of the Michigan Tech hockey team this season. Watson is a senior. He was a co-captain last season with Alex Petan. This year’s alternate captains will be Shane Hanna, Brett Baltus and Michael Neville.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons have traded guard Jodie Meeks to the Orlando Magic. In exchange, the Piston get a second-round draft pick in 2019. The move opens up nearly seven-million dollars in additional salary cap space for the upcoming season. Meeks played only 43 minutes last season because of foot and back injuries.
NHL
Both the NBA and NHL free agent signing windows open tomorrow. The Red Wings were one of several teams expected to make a run at Tampa Bay center Steven Stamkos. That won’t happen – Stamkos has agreed to stay with the Lightning.
