High School
The regional semifinals will be held tonight in the high school volleyball tournament.
– In Class B, Houghton faces Kingsley. The site of that game has been moved from Chrboygan to Manistique. It will start at 6:00. Gladwin and Cadillac will meet in the other semifinal.
– In Class C, Calumet takes on Munising at 7:30 at Gladstone. Rudyard and Iron Mountain meet in the other semifinal.
– In Class D, Lake Linden-Hubbell plays Carney-Nadeau at 7:30 at Westwood. Rapid River faces Forest Park in the other semifinal.
MTU
Michigan Tech running back James Henderson has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. Henderson blocked a punt late in the fourth quarter of the Tech’s victory over Northern Michigan on Saturday. The Huskies converted the turnover into a critical late touchdown.
Despite finishing as runners-up in the GLIAC tournament, the MTU soccer team was not included in the field for the NCAA Division II tournament. Tourney champion Grand Valley was the only GLIAC team invited.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons were wiped out by the Los Angeles Clippers 114-82 last night. Andre Drummond led Detroit with 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Pistons’ starting back court of Ish Smith and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope combined to score just three points. The Pistons play at Phoenix tomorrow night. Tip-off is at 9:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings will try to break their five-game losing streak tonight at Philadelphia. Tyler Bertuzzi has been called up from Grand Rapids, and will make his NHL debut in the game. Forward Tomas Vanek has been placed on injured reserve with a bruised hip. Faceoff is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
