Justin Verlander turned in another strong start, as the Detroit Tigers completed a sweep of their series against the Chicago White Sox with a 5-2 victory yesterday. Verlander gave up five hits over seven innings. Two were solo home runs. He struck out eight, and walked only one. The Tigers broke the game open by scoring four runs in the fifth inning, on a bases-loaded walk to to J.D. Martinez, an RBI single by Nick Castellanos, and a double by Justin Upton.

The Tigers begin a three-game home series against the Toronto Blue Jays tonight. Michael Fulmer will face J.A. Happ. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Wily Peralta struggled, as the Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 8-1 yesterday. Peralta gave single runs in the first, third and fourth innings. He left in the fifth, as Philadelphia scored five times off him and reliever Neil Ramirez.

The Brewers have today off, and open a two-game home set against the Oakland Athletics tomorrow night. Zach Davies will pitch against Sean Manaea.

In Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League play tonight, Auto Pro Glass and Tire will face Northern Michigan Land Brokers at 5:30, and Mattila Rock and Dock at 7:15 at the Houghton High School field.

NBA
The Golden State Warriors cruised past the Cleveland Cavaliers 110-77 last night. The Warriors lead the NBA championship series two games to none.

NHL
The Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks continue the NHL Stanley Cup championship tonight. Pittsburgh leads that set two games to one.
