Justin Verlander gave up four home runs in the fifth inning, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Cleveland Indians 9-3 yesterday. The power surge turned a 2-2 tie into an 8-2 Cleveland lead, and gave the Indians their ninth straight victory over the Tigers this season. Victor Martinez homered twice for Detroit.
The Tigers have today off, and begin a quick two-game home set against the Miami Marlins tomorrow night. Mike Pelfrey will start against Adam Conley. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
The Washington Nationals got past the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 yesterday. The game was scoreless until Washington’s Jose Lobaton hit a solo home run off Jacob Barnes in the top of the seventh. Clint Robinson blasted a two-run shot off Michael Blazek in the eighth. Milwaukee added a run in the bottom of the eighth, and another on a Martin Maldonado homer in the ninth, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
The Brewers also have today off, and start a three-game home series against the Los Angeles Dodgers tomorrow night. Chase Anderson will pitch against Julio Urias.

In Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League play tonight, Superior National Bank will face Auto Pro Glass and Tire at 5:30, and then take on Northern Michigan Land Brokers at 7:15. Both games will be played at the Boneyard in Lake Linden.
