MLB

The Dodgers won the World Series last night, defeating the Rays 3-1 to take the Fall Classic four games to two. Corey Seager was named the series’ Most Valuable Player, after batting .400, with two home runs and six walks.

The Tigers have begun shuffling their roster to prepare for next season. Pitchers Dario Agrazal and Dereck Rodriguez, and outfielder Jorge Bonifacio were placed on waivers. They cleared, and were outrighted to Triple-A Toledo. Pitcher Nick Ramirez was also waived, and elected to become a free agent.

The free agency negotiation period opens today, but contracts can’t actually be signed for another five days.

NHL

Tyler Bertuzzi will make $3.5 million skating for the Red Wings this season. The decision in his arbitration case with the team was announced yesterday. He had asked for $4.25 million. Detroit had offered $3.15 million.

NFL

The Lions have acquired veteran defensive end Everson Griffen from the Cowboys. Detroit will give Dallas a low-round 2021 draft pick in exchange. He had signed a one-season deal with the Cowboys this year, after 10 seasons with the Vikings.

Our high school football playoff coverage begins Saturday afternoon. Houghton plays at Calumet on KBear 102.3. Hancock visits Gladwin on 99.3 The Lift. Lake Linden-Hubbell travels to Forest Park on 97.7 The Wolf.
