VB Wins for Calumet, Chassell – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school volleyball last night…
• Calumet cruised past Houghton 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-17).
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City fell to Ewen-Trout Creek 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-17).
• Jeffers lost to Wakefield-Marenisco 3-1.
• Chassell swept Lake Linden-Hubbell 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-15).

On the volleyball schedule tonight…
• Hancock plays at Lake Linden-Hubbell. That game has been added back to the schedule, after the Bulldogs’ game against Negaunee was canceled. The Miners have shut down their sports program until the end of the month because of a COVID-19 outbreak.
• Chassell welcomes Ontonagon.
• Jeffers hosts Watersmeet.
• L’Anse entertains Bessemer.
• Baraga visits Ewen-Trout Creek.

Thursday’s Copper Cup JV football game between Houghton and Hancock will not be played. Hancock Athletic Director Chris Salani made the announcement at last night’s Board of Education meeting… [SALANI]. No reason for the cancellation was offered. The varsity Copper Bowl game between the Bulldogs and Gremlins is still on the schedule, with the traditional broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

NHL

Former Michigan Tech hockey player Mitch Reinke has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the St. Louis Blues. Reinke signed with St. Louis after leaving Tech following his sophomore season two years ago. He has appeared in one NHL game, and has spent most of his time with the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League.

MLB

The World Series opens tonight, as the Rays face the Dodgers.

The Tigers continue to interview candidates for their open managerial job. Recent reports say they’ve talked with Royals bench coach Pedro Grifol and Pirates coach Don Kelly. Grifol was also a candidate for the job three years ago, but lost out to Ron Gardenhire. Kelly was a versatile utility player for Detroit for six seasons.

NFL

In last night’s NFL games…
• The Chiefs stopped the Bills 25-17.
• The Cardinals smothered the Cowboys 38-10.
