High School
In high school volleyball last night…
– Calumet edged Houghton 3-2 (25-18, 19-25, 20-25, 25-15, 15-13). Leah Bjorn had 16 kills and 26 digs for the Copper Kings. Amber Johnson had 30 digs.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell pulled out a 3-1 (25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22) win over Hancock. Erin Seppala led the Lakes with 13 kills. Joslynn Perala had 13 digs.
– Chassell v Ontonagon – not reported.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University volleyball team plays at Gogebic Community College this evening.
The Finlandia volleyball team has been seeded first in the inaugural American Collegiate Athletic Association tournament. The tournament will be held at Alfred State University in Alfred, New York, November 4th and 5th. The Lions will open against the host Pioneers.
Makayla Mickam has been named the ACAA Offensive Volleyball Player of the Week for helping the Lions to win three of their last four matches.
The Finlandia men’s soccer team has also qualified for the ACAA post-season tournament. The Lions are seeded third, and will open against SUNY-Canton. The tournament will take place November 4th and 5th in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
MTU
The Michigan Tech volleyball team is hosting a Kills for Cancer event on Friday. The team is auctioning off warm-up shirts on its Facebook page. Proceeds will benefit the local Women Living with Cancer Support Group. The bidding will end Friday night, after their match against Davenport University. The Detroit Pistons open the NBA regular season tonight at home against the Charlotte Hornets. Tipoff is at 7:00 on 99.3 The Lift.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings skate at Toronto tonight. Because of Pistons hoops on The Lift, pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on KBear 102.3.
MLB
The New York Yankees got past the Houston Astros 6-4 yesterday, and tied the American League Championship Series at two wins per team. Game five will be played this afternoon in New York.
The Los Angeles Dodgers opened a three-games-to-none lead over the Chicago Cubs with a 6-1 victory in the National League Championship Series last night. That set could be decided in Chicago tonight.

With the Lake Superior Performance Rally set to begin on Friday, organizers have issued a last-minute call for volunteers. You can find out what jobs are available, and sign up, tomorrow from noon until 9:00, and Friday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 at the Country Inn and Suites in Houghton.
