Fast Pitch Softball

In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play this evening…
• Tervo Agency will play Superior National Bank at 5:45 at the Chassell field.
• Tervo Agency will then face JB’s Sales and Service at 7:15 at the Chassell field.
• Gold Standard will take on Superior Service at 7:00 at the Bone Yard.

MLB

Tarik Skubal struck out 13 batters, as the Tigers dispatched the Reds 5-1 yesterday. The Tigers’ ace allowed a run on three hits over seven innings. Zach McKinstry singled home a run in the fourth inning, then hit a two-run homer in the ninth. Gio Urshela had three hits.

The Tigers host the Guardians tonight. Keider Montero will start against Gavin Williams. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Parker Meadows limped off the field after sliding into second base in the eighth inning of yesterday’s game. Early word is that it’s a hamstring injury, but he’ll be evaluated further today.

The Brewers blasted the Dodgers 9-2. Christian Yelich and Blake Perkins each had three hits, including a home run. Eric Haase also homered.

The Brewers have today off, and welcome the Pirates tomorrow night.

Two Tigers are headed to the All Star Game. Tarik Skubal was named to the pitching staff last evening, and Riley Greene was added as a reserve outfielder. The Brewers will have two starters – catcher William Contreras and outfielder Christian Yelich. No other Milwaukee players were added as reserves.

Running

Nik Thomas of Dollar Bay claimed the title at the Run Your Bass Off 10k in Crystal Falls Saturday. Meaghan Weisshahn of Appleton took the women’s crown. See full results here.

Frisbee

The UP Hardwoods team from Marquette claimed the Julius T. Nachazel cup at the 66th annual Coca Cola International Frisbee Tournament yesterday. UP Hardwoods defeated the local Monte Carlo squad in the title match. The defending champion Shottle Bop team was eliminated by the Boomtown Saints, and placed fifth. The Saints wound up in third, with the Roaches team from Marquette in fourth position.

Derek Stone was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Two John Davis/Dan Thornton Spirit of Guts awards were handed out – one to Rachael Hildreth, and the other to Steve Taylor.

• Houghton Building Supply takes on L and L at the Dreamland Bar.
• Calumet One plays Ahmeek Fire Department at Eva’s Hideaway.
