The Detroit Tigers’ losing skid hit nine games yesterday, with a 9-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Starter Spencer Turnbull gave up three runs in the first inning, and left after the second inning. Only half of his pitches were strikes.

Detroit has brought reliever Buck Farmer off the injured list. To make room on the roster, pitcher Carson Fulmer was designated for assignment.
The Milwaukee Brewers lost 7-1 to the Minnesota Twins last night. Brandon Woodruff gave up two runs over five innings, and took the hard-luck loss. Justin Smoak’s home run in the seventh inning provided the Crew’s only run.

Milwaukee has placed reliever Corey Knebel on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring. Knebel is attempting to come back after missing last season because of Tommy John surgery. They brought up second baseman Mark Mathias.
The New York Mets are the latest team to be bitten by the COVID-19 bug. Their games against the Marlins last night, and the Yankees tonight, have been canceled after two members of their organization tested positive.
High School
High school volleyball teams in the Copper Country may start their seasons as scheduled. The Michigan High School Athletic Association yesterday gave the go-ahead for volleyball in the Upper Peninsula and the northern Lower Peninsula. The sport remains on hold in southern Michigan. Per governor Gretchen Whitmer’s COVID-19 executive order, attendance at games will be limited to 25 percent of the gym’s capacity, or 250 people, which ever is less.
The MHSAA’s Representative Council also approved 16 contact practice days for football and all spring sports. Fall football has been canceled across the state, but officials are hoping to stage the season next spring.

In the Eastern Conference at Toronto, the Islanders blanked the Capitals 4-0. New York wins the series 4-1.
In Toronto today, the Flyers meet the Canadiens. Philadelphia leads that series 3-2.

• The Stars outskated the Flames 7-3. Dallas advances with a 4-2 series win.
In Edmonton today, the Blues take on the Canucks. Vancouver is up 3-2 in that series.

The Detroit Pistons’ bad luck in the NBA draft lottery continued last night. Despite having a 10 percent chance of getting the top spot, they wound up with pick number seven. The Timberwolves will select first, followed by the Warriors, the Hornets, the Bulls, the Cavaliers and the Hawks.
The Copper Country Twilight Baseball League tournament will be held this Sunday at the Stanton field. Coverage of the first semifinal will begin around 10:45 on KBear 102.3.
