U-M Falls in NCAA Hoops Title Game – Tuesday Sports Wrap

NCAA Basketball
The University of Michigan lost 79-62 to Villanova in the NCAA men’s basketball championship game last night. The Wolverines controlled the game early, but the Wildcats took over late in the first half, and dominated the rest of the game. Donte DiVincenzo scored 31 points for Villanova, and was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player. Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman led Michigan with 23 points.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers earned their first win of the season yesterday, defeating the Kansas City Royals 6-1. Francisco Liriano pitched into the seventh inning, giving up a run on four hits. Detroit got a run in the third on an RBI single by Miguel Cabrera, then scored four times in the fifth inning. The big blow was a two-run single by Victor Martinez. The Tigers entertain the Royals again this afternoon. Matthew Boyd will start against Jakob Junis. Pregame coverage is scheduled to begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift. There is a good chance of rain at game time.

The Milwaukee Brewers lost 8-4 to the St. Louis Cardinals in their home opener yesterday afternoon. Zach Davies struggled into the sixth inning, and was charged with seven runs on eight hits. Manny Piña, Lorenzo Cain and Eric Thames homered for Milwaukee. The Brewers host the Cardinals again tonight. Chase Anderson will pitch against Jack Flaherty.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings face the Blue Jackets in Columbus tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit will entertain the Philadelphia 76ers tomorrow night. Pregame coverage starts at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

Finlandia
Emily Nguyen has been named American Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Player of the week for the second time this season. She scored seven runs and drove in eight during the Lions’ recent 2-2 split at the Cobber Classic.

Team Copper Country begins defense of its national title Thursday night against Green Bay, at Green Bay. Broadcast coverage will begin around 8:45 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
