• Lake Linden-Hubbell plays at Chassell.

MLB

Andy Ibáñez hit two home runs, as the Tigers outslugged the Cubs 8-6 last night. The power surge helped overcome a weak start by Reese Olson, who left in the fifth inning, and was charged with all six Chicago runs. Parker Meadows had two hits, including a triple.

The Tigers host the Cubs again this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start against Jameson Taillon. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers dumped the Twins 7-3 last night. Willy Adames homered in the first inning, but it was a succession of small-ball singles that enabled Milwaukee to take control with five runs in the sixth inning.

That quick set wraps up this afternoon in Milwaukee. Corbin Burnes will start against Kenta Maeda.

The Reds won, so Milwaukee’s lead in the National League Central Division stands at three-and-a-half games over Chicago, and four games over Cincinnati.

Brewers’ rookie Sal Frelick missed his second straight game with a sore hamstring. He’s considered day-to-day.

College Volleyball

The Michigan Tech volleyball team has been picked to finish fourth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this year. Defending champion Ferris State finished first in the coaches’ preseason poll. The Bulldogs return most of last year’s squad. They were followed by Grand Valley State and Northern Michigan. Lake Superior State was projected to finish eighth in the 10-team league.

NHL

The Red Wings have re-signed forward Joe Veleno to a one-year deal. He had been a restricted free agent.
