Kyle Seager’s RBI double off Justin Wilson in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Seattle Mariners to a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers last night. Jordan Zimmermann got off to a shaky start by allowing three runs over the first two innings. He settled down, and pitched into the seventh. Daniel Stumpf relieved him, and gave up a solo homer to Ben Gamel. Detroit got early solo shots from Ian Kinsler and Justin Upton, and tied the game in the eighth when Kinsler raced home from second on a wild pitch, and J.D. Martinez homered.
The Tigers have lost 10 of their last 14 games, and continue that series at Seattle tonight. Justin Verlander will start against James Paxton. Pregame coverage will begin at 9:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Pittsburgh Pirates scored six runs in the first inning, and cruised to a 7-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers last evening. Starter Zach Davies hung in through five innings, and took the loss. Nick Franklin homered for Milwaukee.
The Brewers continue that home set against the Pirates tonight. Junior Guerra will pitch against Trevor Williams.
Twilight League
In Copper Country Twilight League baseball last night…
– Superior National Bank-Stanton scored four runs in the seventh inning to pull away from Dean Kangas-State Farm 10-4. Rob Brooks got the win. Tyler LaDuron added two scoreless innings of relief, and had three hits.
– Wolverine-Orbit earned its first win of the season by edging REL-Mohawk Technologies 5-4. Jake Lucchini’s line drive to left-center drove in Mark Auk with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Luke Paul got the win in relief of Auk. Matt Donley had a couple of hits for Wolverine.

In Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball tonight…
– At the Houghton field, Calumet Sweet Treats will face Calumet Golf Club/Loading Zone at 5:45, and then take on Frank A. Douglass Agency at 7:15.
– At the Chassell field, Mattila Rock and Dock will face Northern Michigan Land Brokers at 5:45, and Superior National Bank will take on Auto Pro Glass and Tire at 7:15.

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Khyri Thornton has been suspended for the first six games of the 2017 regular season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University cross country teams will hold a running camp July 6th thru the 15th. There will be sessions for kids ages six through nine, and nine through 12, and for anyone age 13 and older. The cost is $50 per person which includes a t-shirt and camp photos. Marth Fun Run
The Denise Marth Memorial Fun Run, Walk and Roll will begin Saturday at the Whirl-I-Gig in Zeba, and proceed over a 5k course to L’Anse Waterfront Park. Besides walking and running, any human-powered method of transportation is acceptable – bicycles, skateboards, etc. Registration begins at 8:30. The cost is $5.00 per person – children ages five and under may take part for free. Kids ages 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
