Anibal Sanchez served up two more home runs Friday, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Minnesota Twins 9-4. Sanchez gave up five runs on eight hits over six innings. Mikie Mahtook homered for Detroit. A potential three-run homer by John Hicks that would have tied the game in the eighth inning was caught at the wall by Max Kepler. The Twins added two runs in the top of the ninth to create the final margin.
The Tigers have lost six of their last seven games, and continue that home set against the Minnesota Twins tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Jose Berrios. Pregame coverage begins at 5:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Tigers’ second baseman Ian Kinsler was claimed off revocable waivers by another team Friday. The identity of the team that claimed him has not been released. That team has 48 hours to work out a trade deal with the Tigers, or the Tigers can withdraw Kinsler from waivers, and keep him. They could also simply let him go, and receive no compensation. The Brewers have been rumored to be interested in Kinsler. The waiver claim may have been made by a team that wanted to prevent a potential trade with Milwaukee. Kinsler’s contract includes a list of teams to which he can veto trades, including Milwaukee.
Detroit has activated outfielder Alex Presley from the disabled list. Jim Adduci was sent down to Toledo to make room.
The Milwaukee Brewers’ late comeback fell short, and they dropped an 11-10 decision to the Cincinnati Reds Friday night. Cincy broke the game open with six runs in the third, and three more in the fourth off Jimmy Nelson. Milwaukee came back with seven runs in the sixth inning, powered by a three-run Eric Thames home run. The Brewers closed the gap further with a Jonathan Villar homer in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t close the gap. It was Milwaukee’s sixth straight loss, and it dropped their record to .500. The Brewers are now tied with the Pirates for third place in the National League Central Division.
The Brewers welcome the Cincinnati Reds this evening. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Homer Bailey.
