Togers, Brewers Load Up on Pitchers in Draft – Tuesday Sports Wrap

Fast Pitch Softball

In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play last evening…

MLB

On day two of the MLB Draft, the Tigers had eight selections. They claimed five pitchers… four from colleges… including Josh Randall from San Diego State in the third round, and Michael Massey from Wake Forest in the fourth round. They also selected two shortstops and an outfielder.

The Brewers also had eight picks. They invested seven on pitchers, including Jaron DeBerry from Dallas Baptist in the third round. The only exception was catcher Marco Dinges from Florida State, whom they took in the fourth round.

Rounds 11 through 20 will take place today.

The MLB All-Star game will be played tonight. Corbin Burnes will start for the American League. Rookie sensation Paul Skenes will start for the National League. The Tigers will be represented by pitcher Tarik Skubal and outfielder Riley Greene. The Brewers have two starters – outfielder Christian Yelich, and catcher William Contreras.

The Tigers return to action Friday, when they visit the Blue Jays. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Milwaukee is off until Saturday, when they play at Minnesota.

• Calumet One outscored Calumet Electronics 6-3.
• Dreamland One shaded Harter’s Party Store 5-4.
• Maple Leaf edged Mohawk Superette 5-4.
