Tigers Win Season Opener – Tuesday Sports Wrap

David Price pitched shutout ball into the ninth inning, and the Detroit Tigers opened their season with a 4-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins yesterday. Joe Nathan replaced Price with two outs in the ninth, and struck out Torii Hunter to earn the save. J.D. Martinez and Alex Avila homered for Detroit. The Tigers have today off, and host the Twins again tomorrow afternoon. Anibal Sanchez will start against Ricky Nolasco. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers stumbled out of the gate, falling 10-0 to the Colorado Rockies. Milwaukee starter Kyle Lohse was chased in the fourth inning, after allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits. The Brewers host the Rockies again tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Jordan Lyles.

Former Tiger Rick Porcello has just become the highest-paid pitcher in the history of the Boston Red Sox. Porcello signed a four-year extension worth more than 80-million dollars yesterday. He would have been a free agent after this season.

NHL – Red Wings Host Hurricanes
The Detroit Red Wings entertain the Carolina Hurricanes tonight. Face-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons Prepare for Celtics
The Detroit Pistons are off until they host the Celtics tomorrow. Greg Monroe is expected to return to the lineup, after missing 11 games with a strained knee.

Duke came from nine points down to defeat Wisconsin 68-63 in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Title game last night. Blue Devils’ freshman Tyus Jones scored 23 points, and was named Most Valuable Player.
