The Detroit Tigers won their third straight game last night, edging the Chicago White Sox 4-3. Detroit took an early lead, with a John Hicks homer in the second inning, and a two-run double by Victor Martinez in the third. Mike Fiers threw five shutout innings, but left after giving up a three-run homer to Omar Narváez that tied the game in the sixth. Hicks scored the game-winner on a Victor Reyes fielder’s choice in the eighth. Buck Farmer got the win in relief, Justin Wilson worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth, and Shane Greene earned his 18th save.
The Tigers play in Chicago again this afternoon. Jordan Zimmermann will return from the disabled list to pitch against Lucas Giolito. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
To make room for Zimmermann’s return, pitcher Artie Lewicki has been sent down to Toledo.
The Milwaukee Brewers also won their third straight, with a 13-2 rout of the Philadelphia Phillies. Brent Suter gave up a run on three hits over seven innings to get the win. He also drove in two runs, and scored twice. Christian Yelich, Hernán Pérez and Jesús Aguilar homered.
The Brewers host the Phillies again this afternoon. Junior Guerra will start against Zach Eflin.
