MLB
Blaine Hardy turned in another effective start, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-1 yesterday. With temperatures in the 90s in Chicago, Hardy pitched into the sixth inning, giving up one run on six hits. The Tigers took an early lead on a two-run homer by Nicholas Castellanos in the first inning. José Iglesias singled home Niko Goodrum with an insurance tally in the fourth.

The Tigers have won five straight. They’ll take today off, and open an interleague series at Cincinnati tomorrow night. Matthew Boyd will pitch against Sal Romano. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers’ late comeback fell short, as they lost 10-9 to the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday. Trailing by five heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Crew scored four times on home runs by Jesús Aguilar and Eric Thames – Thames’ second round-tripper of the game. Starter Chase Anderson struggled into the sixth inning, and was charged with six runs.

The Brewers open a series at Pittsburgh tonight. Jhoulys Chacin will start against Trevor Williams.

Because of the recent storm, tonight’s Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League game between Mattila Rock and Dock and Loading Zone II/Calumet Golf Club has been postponed.
