Tigers Win, but Lose Two Pitchers – Tuesday Sports Wrap

MLB

Andy Ibáñez and Jake Rogers homered, as the Tigers outscored the Rangers 7-2 last night. The win came despite injuries to two pitchers. Starter Matthew Boyd left the game in the first inning with a left elbow problem. Will Vest replaced him, but was sidelined in the second inning with a sore knee. By the end of the game, six Detroit pitchers had combined to strike out 16 Texas batters.

The Tigers visit the Rangers again tonight. Matt Manning will return from the injured list to pitch against Martín Pérez. Coverage will begin at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

Both Boyd and Vest will be evaluated today.

Joey Weimer’s two-run homer lifted the Brewers to a 2-1 victory over the Mets last evening. Colin Rae pitched into the seventh and earned the win.

The Brewers visit the Mets again tonight. Julio Teheran will start against David Peterson.

NHL

A longtime Grand Rapids Griffins player has been named as one of the team’s new assistant coaches. Brian Lashoff just retired as an active player, with the record for most games played with the Red Wings’ top farm club. He was team captain the past three seasons. The other new assistant is Stéphane Julien, who most recently has been head coach and general manager for Sherbrooke in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
