The Detroit Tigers used a team-record nine pitchers in last night’s 10-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals. The bullpen parade began when starter Matthew Boyd left the game in the third inning with soreness in his left arm. He’ll be evaluated today. Alex Lange also exited in the fifth inning, with pain in his right shoulder. After the game, manager A.J. Hinch said that’s been an ongoing concern, and that Lange is likely headed for the injured list. The Royals rapped out 14 hits, but left 13 runners on base. Detroit batters collected 10 hits, including home runs from Willi Castro, Niko Goodrum and Robbie Grossman.

The Tigers continue that series against the Royals in Kansas City tonight. Casey Mize will pitch against Mike Minor. Coverage will begin at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Michael Fulmer returned from the injured list last night. The Tigers sent Isaac Parades down to Toledo to make room.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell 10-2 to the Cincinnati Reds last evening. Eric Lauer took the loss, giving up four runs over the first two innings, and leaving after the fifth. Cincy added two off Eric Yardley in the seventh inning, and scored four off Hoby Milner in the ninth. Daniel Vogelbach homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers host the Reds again tonight. Brett Anderson will start against Luis Castillo.

Milwaukee brought reliever Hunter Strickland off the injured list yesterday, and sent Patrick Wiegel down to Nashville.

Amid reports that numerous pitchers are using foreign substances to enhance their pitches, Major League Baseball says it will begin to crack down on the practice. Beginning Monday, umpires will check each starting pitcher at least twice during a game, and each reliever will be checked once. Pitchers found with illicit substances will be subject to a 10-day suspension. A recent investigation by The Athletic revealed that at least 75 percent MLB pitchers are doctoring the ball.
