MLB
The Detroit Tigers built an early lead, and hung on to defeat the Cincinnati Reds 7-4 yesterday. The Tigers scored twice in the second on a double by José Iglesias. They added another run on a Jim Adduci homer in the fourth, scored three in the sixth, and added an insurance run in the eighth. Starting pitcher Mike Fiers was knocked out of the game in the second inning after he was hit on the shin with a line drive. Seven relievers followed. Cincy’s runs came off Alex Wilson and Louis Coleman in the seventh inning.

The Tigers have today off, and begin a series against the Athletics in Oakland tomorrow night. Blaine Hardy will start against Brett Anderson. Pregame coverage begins at 9:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

X-rays of Fiers’ leg came back negative, but he suffered a nasty bruise.

Yasmani Grandal’s two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning powered the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-4 victory over Milwaukee Brewers last night. Grandal’s second home run of the night came off Matt Albers.

The Brewers conclude that series against the Dodgers in Los Angeles tonight. Jhoulys Chacín will pitch against Clayton Kershaw.
