Tigers Take 5th Straight Win – Monday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Detroit Tigers won their fifth straight game yesterday, edging the Minnesota Twins 3-2. Jonathon Schoop’s solo home run in the sixth inning was the game-winner. Jeimer Candelario also homered. Starter Casey Mize struggled with control, hitting three batters and uncorking a wild pitch while giving up two runs over three innings. Tyler Alexander earned the win in relief.

The Tigers have today off, and open a set against the Milwaukee Brewers tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Miguel Cabrera’s RBI single in the first inning was his 2,000th hit as a Detroit Tiger. Cabrera joins Ty Cobb, Al Kaline, Charlie Gehringer, Harry Heilman, Sam Crawford, Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell in that exclusive club. Cabrera had an additional 842 hits with the Miami Marlins.

The Brewers lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1 yesterday. Brandon Woodruff allowed four runs over five innings, and suffered the loss.

That series wraps up in Milwaukee this evening. Eric Lauer is expected to start against Trevor Williams.

The Oakland A’s game against the Houston Astros was called off yesterday after a member of the A’s organization tested positive for COVID-19. Another round of tests was performed yesterday. The A’s have a planned day off today, and are scheduled to begin a series in Seattle tomorrow night.
