Tigers Swept by Cleveland – Friday Sports Wrap

The Cleveland Indians completed a four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers with a 6-3 victory last night. Detroit starter Matthew Boyd served up two home runs, and was charged with five runs over six innings. Niko Goodrum and Harold Castro homered for Detroit.

The Tigers host the Toronto Blue Jays tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will pitch against Marcus Stroman. Pregame coverage will start at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers used a late surge to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1 last night. The Crew broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the eighth inning. Ryan Braun added a solo home run in the ninth. Zach Davies earned the win, giving up five hits and one run over seven innings.

The Brewers visit the Diamondbacks again tonight. Jhoulys Chacín will start against Taylor Clarke.

Twilight League

In Copper Country Twilight League baseball last evening…
REL-Mohawk Technology edged Superior National Bank-Stanton 8-7.
– Dean Kangas-State Farm downed Garnet Garage 11-3.

American Legion Baseball

The Copper Country Flames American Legion Baseball team will begin zone playoffs in the state tournament today Escanaba. The Flames will face Marquette at 11:30, Escanaba at 2:00, and Iron Mountain at 8:00. The top two teams from that pool will continue in the playoffs tomorrow, with two or three teams eventually advancing to the state championships in Gladwin.

Canal Run

Onsite registration for tomorrow’s Canal Run will be held today between 3:00 and 8:00 at the Finnish American Heritage Center. There will also be a spaghetti dinner hosted by Gino’s at the  Heritage Center from 4:30 to 7:30. You do not need to be entered in the race to enjoy the dinner. This year’s run includes a half marathon; 10-mile, five-mile and two-mile runs and walks; and a kids dash. Shuttle service from the Church of the Resurrection to the starting points of the various events will begin at 6:00 tomorrow morning. For full details, click here.
