MLB – Tigers Fall Again
The Detroit Tigers lost to the Los Angeles Angels 4-2 yesterday. The fading Tigers’ offense collected just five hits. David Price took the loss. He was charged with all four L-A runs… two in the fifth inning, and two more in the eighth, when Joba Chamberlain allowed the two runners he inherited to score.

Detroit has lost seven of its last nine games, and is now in third place in the American League Central – three-and-a-half games behind the Twins, and three games behind the second-place Royals.

The Tigers have today off, and open a home set against the Oakland Athletics tomorrow night. Alfredo Simon is expected to return from bereavement leave to start for Detroit. Kendall Graveman will pitch for Oakland. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Detroit starter Justin Verlander hit the mid-90s with his fastball during a rehab start for the Toledo Mud Hens yesterday. He looked rusty, though, as he gave up two runs on six hits while throwing 79 pitches in two-and-two-thirds innings. The team will decide today if Verlander will make another rehab start, or rejoin the rotation this weekend. Verlander has missed the entire season with a strained triceps.

Maldonado
Maldonado

Martin Maldonado’s home run in the 17th inning lifted the Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-6 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks yesterday. Maldonado’s blast to straightaway center field ended the longest game in Miller Park history. Matt Garza earned the win, with five scoreless innings of relief. The Brewers came back from an early deficit, after rookie Tyler Wagner gave up five runs on nine hits in three-and-two-thirds innings. Manager Craig Counsell announced after the game that Wagner will be sent back down to Double-A Biloxi.

The Brewers open a series against the Cardinals series in Saint Louis tonight. Garza was supposed to start for Milwaukee, but Mike Fiers will step in, instead. Jaime Garcia will counter for the Cards. Catcher Jonathan Lucroy is expected to return for the Brewers, after missing six weeks with a broken toe.
