College Hockey
The NCAA Frozen Four is set. In regional finals at the Division I hockey tournament yesterday, Michigan upended Michigan State 5-2, and top-ranked Boston College held off Quinnipiac 5-4. The Eagles and Wolverines will meet in one semifinal April 11th. Boston University and Denver will face off in the other.
College Basketball
The Final Four is also set in the Division I men’s basketball tournament. North Carolina State and Purdue will play in Saturday’s first semifinal, with Connecticut and Alabama meeting in the second.
NHL
The Red Wings visit the Lightning tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons welcome the Grizzlies this evening.
Yet another Piston has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Quentin Grimes has struggled with a sore knee since he arrived via trade from the Knicks in February. He has already missed 26 of the 32 games he’s been on the roster, and will now be out for the final eight. Ausar Thompson, Isaiah Stewart and Stanley Umude are also sidelined until next season.
MLB
Andy Ibáñez’ pinch-hit single in the top of the ninth drove home Matt Vierling with the winning run, as the Tigers shaded the White Sox 3-2 yesterday. Kerry Carpenter and Jake Rogers homered. Jack Flaherty gave up a run on four hits over six innings, and struck out seven. It’s the first time since 2016 that the Tigers have started a season 3-0. Each victory over Chicago was by a one-run margin.
The Tigers visit the Mets tonight. Reese Olson will face Sean Manaea. Because of Red Wings hockey, there will be no broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers also moved to 3-0, with a 4-1 victory over the Mets yesterday. William Contreras and Willy Adames each had two hits and drove in one run. Brice Turang had two hits and scored twice. Colin Rea turned in five innings, allowing one run on five hits.
The Brewers have today off, and host the Twins in their home opener tomorrow. Jakob Junis will start against Louie Varland.
Mets reliever Yohan Ramirez has been suspended for three games for throwing a pitch behind the head of Rhys Hoskins in Saturday’s game. New York manager Carlos Mendoza received a one-game suspension.
