Tigers Suffer First Loss – Tuesday Sports Wrap

The Detroit Tigers suffered their first loss of the season yesterday, falling to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4. Anibal Sanchez gave up all of Pittsburgh’s runs on three homers before leaving in the seventh inning. Detroit made it close by scoring three runs in the ninth inning, but couldn’t complete the comeback. J.D. Martinez hit his fourth home run of the season for the Tigers.

The Tigers continue that series at Pittsburgh tonight. Shane Greene will start against A.J. Burnett. Hear the first pitch at 7:05 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers edged the Saint Louis Cardinals 5-4 yesterday. Matt Garza earned the win, giving up two runs before leaving in the sixth inning.

The Brewers have today off, and play at Saint Louis again tomorrow evening. Wily Peralta will start against Lance Lynn.

The Finlandia baseball team will play two at Cleary University this afternoon.

NHL – Mrazek Named Starting Wings Goalie
The Detroit Red Wings will begin the NHL playoffs with Petr Mrazek in goal. Coach Mike Babcock made the announcement yesterday… moving the 23-year-old ahead of veteran Jimmy Howard, who has been inconsistent since returning from an injury in mid-February.

Justin Abdelkader remains a question mark for Detroit’s first playoff game. Abdelkader’s hand remains swollen, after it was hit by a puck 10 days ago. The Wings open the playoffs Thursday night in Tampa against the Lightning.

NBA – Pistons Fall to Cavs
Detroit Pistons LogoThe Detroit Pistons lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-97 last night. Cleveland took control early, by outscoring Detroit 36-14 in the first quarter. Andre Drummond led the Pistons with 20 points and nine rebounds. Caron Butler added 19 for Detroit. The Pistons close their season tomorrow at New York.

The Green Bay Packers have re-signed fullback John Kuhn. The team has also matched an offer made to restricted free agent safety Sean Richardson by the Oakland Raiders.
