MLB

The Tigers suffered their second straight lopsided loss to the Royals last evening, falling 9-2. After collecting just five hits Thursday, Detroit managed only three last night. One was a two-run Justyn-Henry Malloy homer in the bottom of the first inning. Tarik Skubal gave up three runs over the first six innings, then left in the seventh, as K.C. scored six off him, Shelby Miller, and Beau Brieske.

The Tigers host the Royals again this evening. Former Tiger Michael Lorenzen will start for Kansas City. Detroit has not named a starter, and will likely employ a bullpen day. Coverage will begin at 5:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Tigers added some pitching depth yesterday by purchasing the contract of reliever Troy Watson from the Blue Jays. He has reported to Toledo, and, for now, has not been added to the team’s 40-man roster.

The Brewers clubbed the Nationals 8-3 last night. Newly-acquired starter Frankie Montas gave up three runs on nine hits over five innings. Four Milwaukee relievers held Washington to just one hit the rest of the way. William Contreras homered, and Sal Frelick scored three runs.

The Brewers visit the Nationals again this afternoon. Aaron Civale will start against DJ Herz.

Pitcher Janson Junk is no longer with the Brewers. Junk was designated for assignment this week when closer Devin Williams was activated. He was claimed off waivers by the Astros.
