Justin Verlander tossed a complete-game four-hitter Friday night, but his Detroit Tigers still lost to the Baltimore Orioles 1-0. The only run of the game came on Adam Jones’ 200th career home run in the sixth inning. Detroit batters scratched out six hits against Baltimore starter Chris Tillman and two relievers, but couldn’t plate a run. Verlander struck out eight.
The Tigers have lost 10 of their last 11, and continue that set at Baltimore tonight. Anibal Sanchez will start against Mike Wright. Hear the first pitch at 7:05 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
The revolving door in the Tigers’ bullpen continues to spin. Yesterday, Daniel Norris was sent back to Toledo – just two days after he was called up. Australian Warwick Saupold has been brought up to replace Norris.
Junior Guerra and three Milwaukee relievers held San Diego batters to just three hits, as the Brewers edged the Padres 1-0. Chris Carter drove in the only run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
The Brewers host the Padres again tonight. Wily Peralta will pitch against Luis Perdomo, who will be coming out of the San Diego bullpen to make his first major league start.
