Tigers Split DH with Astros – Sunday Sports Wrap

NBA

In NBA tournament play last night, the Suns stopped the Clippers 84-80. Phoenix leads the Western Conference finals 3-1.

Tonight, the the Hawks host the Bucks. The Eastern Conference final is tied 1-1.

NHL

The Lightning will face the Canadiens in the Stanley Cup championship series beginning tomorrow. 

MLB

The Detroit Tigers split their doubleheader against the Houston Astros yesterday. Detroit won the opening game 3-1. Zack Short’s first major league home run – a two-run shot in the fifth inning – provided the margin. Casey Mize tossed six effective innings, scattering six hits and allowing one run. The Tigers fell in the nightcap 3-2. Houston’s runs all came in the sixth inning, when Michael Fulmer gave up a pair of home runs.

The Tigers wrap up that home set against the Astros this afternoon. Tarki Skubal will start against Jake Odorizzi.

Short was added to the Tigers’ roster as the extra player to which they they were entitled for the doubleheader. After the game, Detroit elected to keep him in the majors, and demoted Isaac Parades to Toledo.

The Milwaukee Brewers bombed the Colorado Rockies 10-4 yesterday. The Crew broke open a tie game with six runs in the eighth inning. Avisaíl García and Christian Yelich homered. Adrian Houser allowed all four Colorado runs over five innings. Brad Boxberger got the win in relief.

The Brewers host the Rockies again today. Eric Lauer will start against Chi Chi González.
