MLB
The Detroit Tigers split their doubleheader with the Kansas City Royals yesterday, winning the day game 3-2 in 10 innings, then dropping the evening contest 3-2.

JaCoby Jones was the hero of the opener, slugging his first major league home run in the bottom of the 10th to secure the win. Michael Fulmer turned in a quality start, allowing eight hits over seven innings, but giving up just two runs.

Detroit led 2-1 heading into the ninth inning of the nightcap, but the Royals tied the game on a bloop single by Abraham Almonte, and won it when first baseman Niko Goodrum misplayed a ground ball, then threw the ball over the head of pitcher Shane Greene, who was covering first base. Spot starter Daniel Norris pitched into the fifth inning, and was charged with one run.

The Tigers will host the Royals again today. Mike Fiers will pitch against Danny Duffy. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers blanked the Miami Marlins 8-0 last night. The Crew broke the game open in the fourth inning, when Christian Yelich’s RBI triple was followed by back-to-back home runs by Ryan Braun and Travis Shaw. Jhoulys Chacin scattered four hits over six innings to earn his first Brewers win.

The Brewers host the Marlins again tonight. Brent Suter will pitch against Jose Urena.

Shortstop Orlando Arcia left last night’s game after turning his ankle in the eighth inning. X-rays showed no structural damage, and he will be evaluated further today.
