Twilight League Baseball

In Copper Country Twilight League baseball last night…
• REL-Mohawk Technology edged Garnet Garage 4-3.

MLB

Tarik Skubal tossed five scoreless innings, as the Detroit Tigers routed the Boston Red Sox 8-1 yesterday. Robbie Grossman got the Bengals off to a good start with a leadoff home run. Victor Reyes hit two triples, and drove in three runs.

The Tigers begin a weekend series in Cleveland tonight. Matt Manning will start against Cal Quantrill. Coverage will begin at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Grossman left the game after he was hit on the elbow by a pitch in the second inning. It’s not known how serious the injury is.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and begin a home series against the San Francisco Giants tonight. Corbin Burnes will pitch against Logan Webb.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed forward Chase Pearson to a one-year contract. Pearson spent last season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, but will be one of those competing to take over Luke Glendening’s spot on the roster this fall.

NFL

The Pittsburgh Steelers shut down the Dallas Cowboys 16-3 in the NFL Hall of Fame game last night.

Because there was no Hall of Fame induction ceremony last year, there will be two this weekend. The class of 2020 will be enshrined tomorrow, including former University of Michigan lineman Steve Hutchinson, Green Bay Packers safety Bobby Dillon, and Detroit Lions defensive tackle Alex Karras. The class of 2021 will be welcomed on Sunday, including Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson, and former University of Michigan and Green Bay Packers safety Charles Woodson.

Listen for expanded high school football coverage this fall from Keweenaw Report Sports. Houghton games will air on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf. Calumet contests will air on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. We’ll also carry all of Lake Linden-Hubbell’s football games, starting Thursday, August 26th when the Lakes visit the Gogebic Miners on KBear 102.3.
