– Houghton blanked Bark River-Harris 6-0 in their first game at a tournament in Escanaba, then fell to the host Eskymos 6-2 in the championship contest.

In high school softball Saturday, the Calumet and Hancock softball teams a tournament in Kingsford – no report.

The Detroit Tigers broke a 17-inning scoreless streak last night, but lost to the Baltimore Orioles 9-3. Starting pitchers Mike Wright and Anibal Sanchez each pitched five shutout innings. Miguel Cabrera blasted a mammoth home run to give Detroit a brief 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth.  The Orioles responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. They added another in the seventh, then blew the game open with five runs off Drew Verhagen and Mark Lowe in the eighth. The big blow was a grand slam by Jonathan Schoop – his second homer of the night.

The Tigers have lost 11 of their last 12, and conclude that set at Baltimore tonight. Michael Fulmer will start against Kevin Gausman. Hear the first pitch at 1:35 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the San Diego Padres 8-7 in 12 innings Saturday. Milwaukee trailed 6-2 after five innings, but scored two runs in the seventh, and two more in the eighth, to tie the game. The Padres broke the tie with home runs by Derek Norris and Melvin Upton in the top of the 12th inning. The Brewers made a bid to extend the game when Jonathan Lucroy hit a solo shot in the bottom of the inning, but they could not score again.

The Brewers wrap up that set against the Padres this afternoon. Zach Davies will pitch against Cesar Vargas.

NHL
The NHL Western Conference championship series opens tonight, when the Sharks face the Blues. The Eastern Conference final begins tomorrow, when the Lightning meet the Penguins.

NBA
In the NBA playoffs, the Heat and Raptors will decide their second-round series this afternoon. The winner will face the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference final. The Warriors and Thunder will open the Western Conference final tomorrow night.
