Tigers Slammed in Ninth – Friday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school softball yesterday, Hancock fell to Negaunee 11-0 and 15-0.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team has added a new recruit. Nick Illescas played high school soccer in Naples, Florida.

MLB

Garrett Gooper’s grand slam off Shane Greene in the top of the ninth inning powered the Miami Marlins to a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers yesterday. All five runs were unearned, thanks to an error by Dawel Lugo at shortstop, and a bobble by Ronny Rodriguez at second base that prevented completion of a double-play that would have ended the inning. The blow wiped out a good effort by starter Matthew Boyd, who scattered five hits over six shutout innings, and struck out seven. It also sent the Tigers to the ninth consecutive loss.

The Tigers visit the New York Mets tonight. Gregory Soto will start against Noah Syndergaard. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and begin a home set against the Philadelphia Phillies tonight. Chase Anderson will pitch against Jerad Eickhoff.

NBA

In NBA playoff action, the Toronto Raptors defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 105-99. Toronto leads the Eastern Conference final 3-2, and could advance with a victory tomorrow night at home.

Our high school softball tournament coverage begins Tuesday, when Hancock plays at Lake Linden-Hubbell. The broadcast will begin at 4:10 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
