MLB – Price Shuts Down Athletics
David Price pitched seven shutout innings, as the Detroit Tigers edged the Oakland Athletics 1-0 last night. The only run of the game came in the first inning, when Anthony Gose singled, stole second, went to third on a throwing error, and scored on Rajai Davis’ sacrifice fly.
The Tigers conclude that West Coast trip this afternoon at Oakland. Alfredo Simon will start against Scott Kazmir. Hear the first pitch at 3:35 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Justin Verlander threw 70 pitches in a simulated game yesterday. He gave up just three singles, and reported no discomfort in his strained triceps muscle. If he still feels good today, he could be sent out for a rehab assignment early next week.
The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the San Francisco Giants 6-3 last night. Matt Garza gave up five runs over five innings, and took the loss. Aramis Ramirez homered for Milwaukee.
The Brewers wrap up that home set against the Giants this afternoon. With Wily Peralta on the disabled list, Mike Fiers will start on three days’ rest against Ryan Vogelsong.
Catcher Jonathan Lucroy will begin a rehab assignment with the Brewers’ Brevard County farm club tomorrow. He’s recovering from a broken toe, and could be back with Milwaukee by Monday.

In high school baseball regular-season play yesterday, Houghton lost twice to Marquette, 2-0 and 10-0. In the opening game of the Division Three playoffs, Hancock fell to Gladstone 14-1.
