Tigers Series with Cards Canceled – Tuesday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Detroit Tigers are off until Friday, following the cancellation of their mid-week series against Saint Louis. Yesterday’s COVID-19 test results raised the number of Cardinals’ infections to seven players and six staff members. Eight of those infected are displaying symptoms, and five are not. The team has been quarantined in Milwaukee since Thursday, when the first cases were confirmed. Their series last weekend against the Brewers was also called off.

Detroit’s next scheduled game is Friday at Pittsburgh. There is no word as to when – or if – the Saint Louis series will be made up.

The Brewers returned to the field last night, and dropped a 6-4 decision to the White Sox. Brett Anderson gave up a pair of runs in the first inning, and left after three in his first start of the season. The Crew came back to take a 4-2 lead at the end of six, but the Chisox scored two in the seventh, and added single runs in the eighth and ninth.

The Brewers host the Sox again tonight. Brandon Woodruff will start against Lucas Giolito.

With Lorenzo Cain opting out of the season, and Ryan Braun on the injured list with an infected finger, the Brewers have brought up Ryon Healy and Mark Mathias. Anderson was brought off the injured list to start last evening, and Jacob Nottingham has been sent down to make room.

Milwaukee bench coach Pat Murphy has been released from the hospital after suffering a heart attack during a team workout Saturday. There’s no word as to when he may return to the team.

The hard-hit Miami Marlins are scheduled to reopen their season tonight at Baltimore. Because of COVID-19 infections, the team has been off since July 26th, and has lost 18 players to the coronavirus.

The Finlandia University baseball team has added yet another new recruit. Thomas Burns from Atlanta, Georgia becomes the 26th new player added to the roster. He’s a pitcher, and is transferring in from Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville.
